Who is MORNA?
The Association is provincially organized, and is based in Winnipeg.
Board of Directors
The affairs of MORNA are managed by a Board of Directors which is composed of the Executive Officers, Representatives from all Winnipeg Operating Rooms, Chairpersons of Standing or Ad Hoc Committees, and Associate Chapter President(s).
Meetings
There are a minimum of five (5) general meetings, held from September to June. Each meeting has a business section, as well as an educational session. The Annual General Meeting, which includes the Election of Officers, is held each year within May or June.
Objectives
- Develop and promote professional standards, based on the CNA Code of Ethics for Nurses, which promote optimum perioperative patient care.
- Support and promote the ORNAC Recommended Standards for Perioperative Nursing Practice.
- Identify and meet the professional needs of perioperative nurses throughout the Province of Manitoba.
- Ensure perioperative nursing practice remains current by the networking of ideas and techniques through meetings, communications, presentations, conferences and workshops.
- Develop a strong sense of collegiality among the perioperative nursing community, for professional and personal growth.
- Advocate for perioperative nurses on issues and decisions affecting their practice.
- Establish resources for educational, social and research activities.
- Establish recognition and financial awards for Active MORNA members or others who have made significant contributions to perioperative nursing.
- Contribute and disburse funds to support the cause of perioperative nursing.
- Establish and maintain links with CRNM, ORNAC and other professional organizations.
President's Message
Thank you for visiting the Manitoba Operating Room Nurses Association website.
Our group consists of talented and dedicated perioperative nurses throughout the province from all surgical specialties and levels of experience. As well as supporting its members in providing safe and efficient care, we work to ensure that our group remains current with new practices and technologies so that the very best care is offered to our patients.
MORNA continues with our membership with the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC). This membership process allows all MORNA members access too many opportunities offered through ORNAC including webinars, discounts to the ORNAC conference and a "voice" at ORNAC's Annual General Meeting held each spring. I believe you’ll be impressed by what MORNA/ORNAC has achieved so far and am confident about its potential to accomplish great things in the future.
MORNA strongly supports education through monthly meetings which consist of an education session followed by a nutritional break and then our business meeting. Through ZOOM Video Conferencing, we are able to include many rural sites in our monthly meetings and are working on increasing this membership throughout the coming year. We presently have incentives to attract new members, acknowledge active MORNA members and even a chance to win their Registration to the upcoming ORNAC National Conference Registration fee in 2019. Our meetings will now be held at the CRNM building in the Conference Room on the main floor. These meetings will give participants a platform to exchange ideas, discover novel opportunities, reacquaint with colleagues, meet new friends, and broaden your knowledge.
We also host our annual Spring Workshop which not only provides the opportunity for nurses to enhance their perioperative knowledge but also the opportunity for nurses to network within the province. This year, the workshop will be held in Winnipeg at the Hilton on March 16, 2019. For further information regarding the workshop, please contact Stacey Brown at Smbrown_75@mymts.net. We do hope you are able to join us.
Finally, I would like to thank our members for the support and active engagement to our association. Your role in realizing our vision and being part of a team that is committed to the very best in patient care, safety, education and research is deeply valued. I look forward to this final year as your President.
With best regards,
Kim
