ORNAC Privacy Policy

ORNAC recognizes that privacy of information is important. This privacy notice is to explain to you what ORNAC does with information and the manner in which it is used. This notice is to voluntarily comply with federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Collection and Use of Personal information

ORNAC limits its requests for information to ONLY what is required to ensure ongoing communication and completion of work for the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC). Most of the personal information collected by ORNAC is for use within the association. The information is basic including but not limited to, name, address, telephone number, fax number, email address and work phone number, address, and job title.

Internet

The ORNAC web site lists the Executive and Board. Your email address or other information shall not be posted without your knowledge. The number of visits to our website is monitored. Inquiries from the website are dispersed to appropriate members or Committee Chairs via the web monitor. The member may respond directly to the inquirer or back to the web monitor as they wish.

Corporate Background

ORNAC is a volunteer organization within perioperative registered nursing practice, therefore is limited in corporate activity and clients. ORNAC clients will be asked for information pertaining to the work involved and shall not share it with others. Clients shall be informed of information sharing in advance. An example is the review of Post Basic Courses seeking ORNAC endorsement for a program. A certificate of recognition is given and this information is displayed by ORNAC and the receiving client. The score achieved, and the name of the reviewer is not revealed.

Individual members of the Executive and Board have the right to refuse posting of personal information in ORNAC venues, including but not limited to, Canadian Operating Room Nursing Journal (CORNJ), www.ornac.ca, ORNAC Standards documents, Position Statements, Guidelines or advertising such as national conference posters.

Disclosure of Personal Information

ORNAC does not share information. Member lists are not shared on a for profit basis, nor are conference delegate lists. ORNAC will retain information for as long as it is required for the functioning of the association and shall not share without your permission. For example, ORNAC will not give your information to another individual or group to mail information to.
By becoming an ORNAC Executive or Board member we, ORNAC, assume this information may be shared and listed in such things as the Canadian Operating Room Nursing Journal (CORNJ) where you are listed as a Board member.

Accuracy of Information

ORNAC relies on our members to notify the association of changes to personal information.

Protection of Personal Information

ORNAC shares personal information with only those needing the information. Personal information is reviewed bi-annually at Board Meetings. Members shall note such items as unlisted phone numbers or designate a ìuse Firstî policy with restricted information.

ORNAC is committed to ensuring we gather only information we need about you.

Filing of a Complaint

Should you be dissatisfied with ORNAC's privacy policy or practices regarding privacy we shall investigate your complaint and take corrective actions if needed or it is felt to be necessary. All complaints shall be shared and reviewed with the Board. A report shall be given to you. If you remain dissatisfied you may send a report to the federal Privacy Commissioner.
